Hermannsburg
Woof
Thank you for the dogs and people who sent emails last week. It was good to feel part of the pack again.
Anyway Dad and I are in Hermannsburg after a great drive up here. We are running a trip with a family. They were really happy when they found I was in the Toyota. They love me. Especially the 7 year old who is the youngest but they are all great people. When the car started I jumped on her mum's lap and they all laughed.
They have gone off to Palm Valley today with 5 aboriginal children. Delicia, Gavin, April, Semra and Shona. I can't go because it's a National Park and I am a dog. So I am staying here in the old community.
On my last Dogblog I talked about being in a St. Stephens Church Cemetery where dad and I walk. Something happened there and I needed time to understand it. We were doing a tour with the Minister's wife to hear about all the people buried there. As usual everyone in the group loved me and laughed when I did things things like scratch on the ground or sniff the teacher's foot. It's really easy to please humans.
But one woman was especially nice to me. Every time I walked past she bent down and ran her hands through my hair. What was different was that her hands were where most people's elbows are. Dad said later it was probably Thalidimide or something.
Even though her hands were short she rubbed behind my ears and whispered soft little things like "you are such a good boy" and "you are such a beautiful boy."
I think she would have been happy to just stay with me and rub her short hands through my hair. The thing was it was sad because her arms were very short but beautiful because she knew it didn't matter to me.
Anyway, I learnt that some things can be sad and beautiful at the same time.
It is like that here at Hermannsburg too. The old church is beautiful but you think of the people who were here before it was built. They were here for thousands of years and then they had to stay close to the church so they wouldn't be killed from guns or because there was no food or water.
I am learning more about things as I travel.
