Old Nana

Woof woof everyone. Dad and I visited his mum Pat last night. She is getting "on" as humans say. The last time we spent some time together it was after her husband, Dad's father, died a couple of years ago. Seeing her last night I thought she looked so much better but after 62 years with someone it must be so hard to be alone.

Anyway, when she was at the worst of grieving, people were telling her she'd get better, and that she should think of all the wonderful times that her and papa had had together. Everything they said was right but I comforted her in a dog's way. I just sat with her and put my head on her lap so she could stroke me. Sometimes that's the best thing you can do. It's the only thing yo can do really. Let someone feel something real and warm and in my case a little bit fat.

Dad said I was a very good companion. I didn't leave her for 5 days because, as humans say, I wanted to be "there for her."

I think Dad was really proud of me. He would come up and say you are such a good boy Tommie .. but I wasn't really. The old lady is part of our pack and you have to do what is best for the pack. Anyway... I hope you are enjoying our daily Wuffington Post. It isn't that hard to write. I never know what I am going to say until I sit down and I talk about the first thing that comes into my head. Well the second really because the first is usually about food.

Woof Woof Tommie xx

dogs are so wise, sometimes words are not enough

Tommie, you are wise beyond your ears. :) So often people think they have to use words to be comforting. That is just one of the ways that animals are wiser. You're right that you have to do what is best for your pack, but when you do it with such a loving heart, you ARE a good boy. Lots of love, Susan and Hogan

Woof Tommie , what a little star you are. I am sure Nana appreciated you just sitting with her. Sometimes it's good just to sit with your own thoughts. Don't you ever change.xx

Thank you Tommie what a lovely story. My days would be less brighter without yours and dad's thoughts.
